Plans are coming together within the Gaelic Whiskies
to establish a new distillery in the Sleat area on the Isle of Skye. Planning
permission has been applied for to convert an old farm steading into what will
be only the second distillery on the Island.
The distillery will provide connoisseurs with an
added stop on the whisky trail, where they will witness the production of a
brand new Skye single malt named Thorabhaig.
Once the planning permission is granted, and extra
funding sourced, building can begin, and the new Skye whisky will be on its way
towards production.
The new distillery will prove beneficial in many
ways for the Island, providing around 7 to 10 jobs in the distillery and
visitor centre, and will help boost the economy of the Island as a whole, by
attracting more tourists through increasing Skyes impact as part of the
whisky trail.
